Two men are being held in Russia awaiting trial after repeatedly tunneling under EU borders using only shoe-horns.

Having successfully managed to tunnel under the border between Belarus and Poland, they got lost and ended up back at the same border. Thinking it was the border with Germany, they dug again, ending up back in Belarus, where they were arrested and jailed.

On their release, they later tried to tunnel from Russia to Ukraine, but were caught by Russian border guards.

They didn't want to risk buying spades as they felt it would give away their plan.
